LET’S CLEAR THE AIR WITH SOME OF MY MUDDLED, CONVOLUTED OPINIONS.
I don’t know where I stand with this whole Obamacare thing. That’s not to say I don’t care. I totally care. I even call it Elliottcare in my head sometimes; that’s not true, that would be stupid.
What I do oppose is the constant doomsday approach to every political decision. It’s sad to me that the children and grandchildren of the greatest generation lose their everloving minds over legislative acts that, for better or worse, will not ruin or save this country.
This country was built by people who gave a crap about things worth giving a crap about. They walked onto mounds of dirt with a stick and a flag and said, “Guess what, biotches, this is mine now.” They were ballsy. They didn’t picket, they shot people. They did some truly awful things, and some incredible things. Their actions may not be worthy of replication, but their passion is. They weren’t perfect, but at least they weren’t pathetic. The passion they had and the decisions they made were done so in the face of extremely high stakes, sometimes life and death.
I have many conservative values. I don’t like giving the government power. I don’t like when the government dictates what I do. I want the government to have as little to do with me as possible. The government is not meant to be a world-class problem-solver.
I also have many liberal values. I like when people who need help get it, and I don’t care how that help gets to them. My beliefs about what the government should be are not as important as a single person who’s sick. No belief is.
So, to summarize: No, I don’t know how I feel about Obamacare. Part of me is against it, but a lot of me is very for it. Whatever opinion I land on, however, I can guarantee you that this law will neither be a legislative a-bomb to the foundation of our country, nor will it be a shining symbol of political perfection. It’ll be good, and it’ll be bad, but mostly, it’ll just be.
